Yes! There are many clinical studies proving cryolipolysis is a safe and effective treatment for permanent fat reduction. Once the fat cells are frozen they crystallise and die (a process called apoptosis). They are eliminated naturally through the body’s lymphatic system over a period of 4-12 weeks.

Generally people will not lose a noticeable amount weight from cryolipolysis treatments as this method targets small areas of stubborn fat that is often not enough to see on the scale. However; removing fat in specific areas does have a noticeable visual impact on a persons body shape, making them look more lean and tone. A reduction in the the circumference of the treated area and clothing size/ fit often occurs. At The Shape Studio we take before and after pictures and measurments of all our clients to help track their progress and document their results.

Cryolipolysis is non surgical and non-invasive. Initially when the vacuum on the machine is started you will feel a strong pinch. Some people find this a little uncomfortable but after around 5-10 minutes the area becomes numb and you won’t feel much at all. When the applicators are removed, our therapists will help to break down the dead fat cells and stimulate lymphatic drainage by performing a short massage. Some people report a stinging sensation but it will last approximately 5-10 mins.

We all have a set amount of fat cells and we can’t grow anymore. When we gain weight they expand, when we lose weight they get smaller. Cryolipolysis permanently reduces the number of fat cells we have. If you maintain a healthy weight the fat won’t come back to the treated area.

Generally speaking the average person will need to do 2 or 3 treatments in the same area for optimal results . We recommend a month between treatments. Results are seen 4-12 weeks after your last appointment. We encourage our clients to return after 12 weeks post their last treatment so we can see your results and take your "after photos" for comparison and to track your progress.

The ideal treatment areas must have at least 2cm of pinchable subcutaneous fat, (soft squishy fat under the skin). So if you can squeeze it, we can freeze it! The most popular areas are the stomach (abs) and love handles but we can also treat thighs, upper arms, below bottom banana roll, and bra roll. As with all treatments there are possible risks. ​ The most common side effects include redness, bruising, blistering, numbness, tenderness, freeze burn and occasionally swelling. If occurring these will generally last 3-7 days. Rare Side Effects (less than 1/1000) include: -Late onset pain several days after treatment, and resolution within several weeks -Vasovagal Symptoms: Dizziness, light headedness, nausea, flushing, sweating or fainting during or immediately post treatment -Paradoxical Hyperplasia: (where the fat cells increase in size can occur in 0.0051% of cases). This may require surgical intervention. -Subcutaneous Induration: Generalised hardness and/or discrete nodules within the treatment area, which may develop after the treatment, and may present with pain and/or discomfort. -Temporary Hyperpigmentation may occur after treatment. Typically resolves spontaneously. ​

Cryolipoysis is best suited to people with a healthy BMI. The treatment helps to eliminate areas of fat that are resistant to diet and exercise. VelaShape III treatments take approximately 15mins per area.

Results typically last 3-4 months. Following your treatment regimen, it is recommended that you periodically receive maintenance VelaShape treatments. Like all techniques, invasive or non-invasive, results will last longer if you follow a balanced diet and exercise regimen.
